Alamo House by OOIIO Architecture

OOIIO Architecture completes a new singular residential project in Toledo, to build a spectacular house in the well-known neighbourhood of Valparaíso.

If we close our eyes and think of the city of Toledo, images of its beautiful, unique and unrepeatable historic World Heritage Site will come to mind. An architectural and urban wonder that completely conditions the life of Toledo and the configuration of the city.

The historic centre of Toledo cannot grow due to its geographical enclave surrounded by the Tagus River and the landscape protection that deserves its closest surroundings.

The different new residential neighbourhoods have emerged scattered around it (unfortunately disconnected from each other). One of these neighbourhoods is Valparaíso, where the plot of Casa Alamo is located.

In Toledo, all buildings fight to get the best views of the beautiful skyline of its historic centre, as if it were the sea in a coastal city. The “beachfront” is occupied by the famous and stately Toledo´s “cigarrales villas”, while the other views are distributed as they can by the other neighbours.

In OOIIO Architecture, upon detecting this urban and social particularity of the city, we decided to start from the “lookout” concept for the project of this design house in Toledo.

The whole house is designed to enhance its views towards the historic centre. Being able to look at the monuments of the city from your living room, from your bedroom, is Toledo inhabitant’s synonym of luxury.

This is why the house is organized by three elongated pieces, which show its longest open facade towards the heart of Toledo, taking advantage of the steep slopes of the land to stand out above its neighbours, such as who stretches the neck in a concert to see better the singer.

Three large rectangular prismatic blocks, covered with natural stone cladding, are strategically superimposed to configure the house. The interiors extend towards exterior platforms since the one-piece roof is used as the exterior space of the upper floor.

In the central block are the living room, kitchen and day spaces, taking advantage of that large terrace that rises on the lower block, to enjoy life outside when the weather allows it, thus considerably increasing the feeling of spaciousness and space the salons; the upper part is turned towards the views and sunrise, containing the bedrooms and other rest areas.

Conceptually, the space is configured as if in large shoebox we put inside other objects, meticulously placed, until we achieve a perfect interior for its users.

The large platform terrace that extends the living room and kitchen to the garden will serve as a perfect place of rest and relaxation for the family life of our clients. Source by OOIIO Architecture.
