Statens Museum for Kunst by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter

This new extension is dedicated to elevating the knowledge and experiences related to art and therefore its new location which will enhance the symbiotic relation of both culture and nature in Thisted commune.

The project seeks to transform the old warehouse, Doverodde Købmandsgård, the former silo and the scenic landscape surrounding these historic buildings.

The museum will be developed within thebframework of the old warehouse and the silo. Buildings with a very different starting point and potential.

We propose a similar structural approach in the transformation of these two: a new museum within the existing walls.

This will allow for a new and contemporary museum allowing for the necessary requirements like: a stable indoor climate, sensitive and protecting installations, and a low energy use.

Købmandsgården will serve as a café and restaurant with conference facilities. The administration will be situated at the front gable close to the museum and the new entrance house.

The latter, a new signature pavilion connecting the two attractions: the museum and the nature facilities.
